After serving six years at the British School Salalah, Chris and Maggi Peedell have decided to move on. Norah O'Neill will replace Chris as Head Teacher from September 2010. Norah O'Neill and Richard Hurst joined the school in September 2009 and a new teacher, Tessa Young, will join in September 2010.

The only British National Curriculum school in Salalah, and a member of the association, British Schools in the Middle East (BSME), it is the one school that provides a smooth transition for pupils coming from or returning to British schools either in the U.K. or abroad.

Indeed the child-centered approach and supportive classroom atmosphere are appreciated by pupils from all backgrounds. Over the last two years, there have been pupils from North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

"school field and play area"

It is an intimate school where numbers vary according to expatriate contracts, but, with a maximum class size of 18, it is quickly able to ensure that all pupils feel part of the "family" and are given the individual attention they need and deserve. There are currently three classes, reception and year 1 combined, years 2 to 4 combined and years 5 to 7 combined.

There has been a recent demand for key stage 3 schooling at the British School Salalah. From September 2009 a pilot scheme offering year 7 with a view to continuing to year 9 in the years to come has been successful, however the continuation of Middle School will be put on hold until a later stage due to insufficient infrastructure and resources. Year 7 will continue to be offered.

The school is owned by a Board of Governors, managed by a P.T.A. and run on a non-profit basis. The P.T.A. is very active in organising fund-raising events throughout the year. Please check the sponsors page.

"The plants need some water"

The school is ever developing its resources. Currently it consists of a pleasant, purpose built building of 4classrooms, computer room and library around a sheltered quadrangle. The office and staff room are located in a seperate building adjacent to the library. The computer room houses a small PC Network with nine PC's connected to the Internet. There is a playground with assorted swings, climbing equipment and sandpit, a basketball/netball court, tennis wall, sizeable field and a picnic area. The staff room and office
